University of Arkansas System President Dr. B. Alan Sugg has appointed Dr. Larry D. Davis as the next chancellor of the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM).
The current vice chancellor for academic affairs at Arkansas State University-Newport, Davis will succeed Nathan Crook, who retired June 30 after 25 years as chancellor.
Davis has 37 years of experience in community college administration and instruction. He has been vice chancellor at ASU-Newport for six years and previously served as an instructor, department head and division chair during a 31-year stint at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology-Okmulgee.
"Dr. Davis has the qualifications and experience to be an excellent leader for the students, faculty and staff of UACCM, and to help lead the economic development efforts in the region," Sugg said. "The college has seen significant growth and advancement over the past 10 years and I'm confident Dr. Davis will continue that momentum. I'm also grateful for the outstanding leadership Nathan Crook has provided to the college throughout the past three decades."
Davis has extensive experience in workforce development, including playing an instrumental role in establishing the state's first high voltage lineman program at ASU-Newport. He's also served for the last 18 years as a consultant-evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Accreditation Association, which accredits colleges throughout the region.
He's been active in the Newport community as a member of the Jackson County Library Board and the Newport Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, among other activities.
"I'm very excited and very humbled by the opportunity to work with everyone at the college and in the Morrilton community to build upon the great foundation that's already been established at UACCM," Davis said.
Davis earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics from East Central State College (Ada, Okla.), and his master's and doctoral degrees in occupational and adult education from Oklahoma State University.
