"Just Desserts" A Success
Posted: November 10, 2008
The seventh annual Just Desserts fundraiser was held on Thursday, November 6 at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Plaza and adjacent courtyard. The event, which is the UACCM Foundation’s annual fall fundraiser, featured an evening of savory desserts, live, silent, and chance auctions, live entertainment, and door prizes.
Chancellor’s Club Sponsors for Just Desserts, who donated $500 to the event, included Mobley Construction Company, Inc., Petit Jean Meats, and Petit Jean State Bank. Ambassador’s Club Sponsors, who donated $250 to the event, included Arvest Bank of Morrilton, Family Dental Center, Morrilton Food and Drug, and Regions Bank of Morrilton. Other donors for the event included the GFWC Adelaide Club, Events of Conway, Plummer's Flowers of Morrilton, and Tinsley Mullins Engineers of Little Rock.
UACCM Foundation Board Member Les Miller volunteered as the evening’s auctioneer. Several items were included in the live auction, and remaining uncut desserts were also auctioned to the highest bidders near the evening’s end. Executive Chef Adam Hanry of the Ozark Conference Center in Solgohachia served his “Pumpkin Creme Brulee” dessert, which recently took top honors in the Arkansas Hospitality Association’s 2008 Arkansas Chef Challenge, throughout the evening.
Preliminary numbers show that the event raised more than $4,500 in net profit for the college. This year’s proceeds will be applied toward a general campus improvement which will include campus beautification projects campus-wide.
UACCM Foundation Board Member Mary Clark stated that the UACCM Foundation was grateful to all businesses, individuals, UACCM employees, and students who helped make the event a success through donated items or desserts, purchases made, and volunteered time. Clark added “We had seven businesses that served as major sponsors and more than 100 businesses and individuals that donated items and desserts to the event. The Foundation was very pleased with the support from all involved with Just Desserts 2008.”
The UACCM Foundation is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 corporation that was established to raise funds for the sole benefit of the college. All contributions to the UACCM Foundation made from individuals or businesses are tax deductible. The Foundation directly supports the college by funding programs, equipment, and facilities that may not be possible through the general budget.
