he sixth annual Just Desserts fundraiser was held on Thursday, November 8 at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Plaza and adjacent courtyard. The event, which is the UACCM Foundation’s annual fall fundraiser, featured an evening of savory desserts, live, silent, and chance auctions, live entertainment, and door prizes.
Chancellor’s Club Sponsors for Just Desserts, who donated $500 to the event, included Fennell Purifoy Hammock Architects, Mobley Construction Company, Inc., Petit Jean Meats, Regions Bank of Morrilton and Southwestern Energy. Ambassador’s Club Sponsors, who donated $250 to the event, included Arkansas Valley Wholesale, First Electric Cooperative Corporation, Petit Jean State Bank, TME, Inc., Virco, Inc., and Wayne Smith Trucking.
Jazz Band MJ-4 entertained guests in the Plaza, and UACCM Foundation Board Member Les Miller volunteered as the evening’s auctioneer. Several items were included in the live auction, and remaining uncut desserts were also auctioned to the highest bidders near the evening’s end. Executive Chef Adam Hanry of the Ozark Conference Center in Solgohachia served his “Moon Pie” dessert, which recently took top honors in the Arkansas Hospitality Association’s 2007 Arkansas Chef Challenge, throughout the evening.
Preliminary numbers show that the event raised more than $7,000 for the college before expenses. This year’s proceeds will be applied toward the construction of a new multi-purpose pavilion on campus to be used for campus and community events.
UACCM Foundation Board Member Mary Clark stated that the UACCM Foundation was grateful to all businesses, individuals, UACCM employees, and students who helped make the event a success through donated items or desserts, purchases made, and volunteered time. Clark added “We had eleven businesses that served as major sponsors and more than 100 businesses and individuals that donated items and desserts to the event. The Foundation was very pleased with the support from all involved with Just Desserts 2007.”
