Accuplacer/Companion Accommodation Approval Process:

Accuplacer & Companion are not timed—extended time is determined by time the student allows for arrival and departure and testing center hours. Small group testing, adjustable desks, adjustable chairs, and headphones to reduce noise are available. A noise machine is also used to reduce distractions.

If you are requesting extended time, breaks during the exam, or a small group testing location—you do not have to send documentation for an accommodation. A semi-private testing room is available upon request and prior approval.

Companion is provided in Braille, large print, audio CD, and paper/pencil versions. UACCM facilitates read-aloud exams via an audio CD and paper/pencil exam (Companion Exam) or via computerized software (JAWS or NVDA with Math Player).

Seven Documentation Criteria Required for Accuplacer/Companion Accommodations:

  1. The diagnosis is clearly stated
  2. Information is current
  3. Educational, developmental, and medical history is presented
  4. The diagnosis is supported
  5. The functional limitation is described
  6. Recommended accommodations are justified
  7. Evaluators’ professional credentials are established

*Please include a contact phone number for the FERPA designee. We will call and schedule the exam once accommodation(s) are approved.

Please send documentation with a signed FERPA third party release to:
UACCM Disability Services 1537 University Blvd -BTC #204 - Morrilton, AR 72110 or
fax to 501-977-2107 (no e-mails)

You are provided the opportunity to send any missing or necessary information throughout the approval process and will be notified via telephone of any questions or paperwork requirements.

*Important note: Special Education placement categories are not always a diagnosis. We must have the diagnosis clearly listed (per #1 above). For example, SI—Speech or Language Impairment has several different diagnoses related to this placement category.
