Frequently Asked Questions
Where Is the Office of Career Services located?
UACCM Career Services is housed within the Counseling Services office which is located in the Business Technology Center (BTC) 204.
I need help choosing a major. What should I do?
Don’t panic! Career Services can help you make this choice. Make an appointment with a career counselor in Career Services and you will find the help you need. This will be a process of meeting with the counselor several times, taking some self-assessments, and narrowing your choices. This will likely not be a quick decision that is made in one visit. The length of time needed to make the choice will likely depend on where you are in the decision making process.
Is there a test I can take that will tell me what major or career to choose?
No test can tell you exactly what to study, but self-assessment can help in leading you to a decision. Self-assessment is a process to help you consider your interests, skills, values, and personality and how they fit with careers. It helps you determine career options and choose an appropriate major for your career plans. Career Services can provide you with access to several assessments which can help you decide on your major or career. Stop by or schedule an appointment to learn more.
I like my major but I’m not sure what I can do with it.
You can visit with a career counselor who will provide some information and resources. It’s important to realize that a major and a career are two different things. Oftentimes it’s difficult to determine a career simply from a major. You may need some help identifying some occupations which fit well with your major. You may also need help in identifying the path toward your chosen career. Career Services can help.
How do you make an appointment?
Appointments can be made in person by coming to Counseling Services or by calling 501-977-2095. Simply let our Administrative Specialist know that you’d like to schedule a counseling appointment. You’ll be asked some very basic questions (nothing too personal) and assigned an appointment based upon your schedule as well as the counselor’s schedule. Appointments are typically scheduled every hour on the hour from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. However, the office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All appointments are free of charge to students.
Why do students visit Career Services and what happens when you get there?
Career Services provides students with opportunities for choosing a major, gaining information about a career plan, researching occupations, improving resume writing and interviewing skills, attending Career Fairs, searching for jobs, and other helpful resources that will help students in achieving their career goals. Students can stop in and ask for help, but most likely they will be asked to schedule an appointment to speak with a career counselor.
Who may use UACCM Career Services?
UACCM students and recent graduates are eligible for career services. Also, prospective UACCM students may qualify for an initial career counseling consultation.
Does it cost anything to meet with a UACCM counselor?
No. All our career services are free to students. There are no counseling fees for currently enrolled UACCM students.
